Active travel a priority for Richmond Council

The Cabinet Member for Transport, Streetscene and Air Quality has announced the creation of an Active Travel Advisory Group to replace the previous Cycling Liaison Group.

This consultative group will be made up of representatives from local organisations that promote and support active and suistainable forms of travel including cycling, walking and urban realm improvements.

Proposals will be developed over the next month and are expected to be in place by early Autumn.

Take part in a Tennis League

If you enjoy playing tennis, join one of the three tennis leagues taking place in the borough. The leagues are open to anybody aged 18 and over and are available in Barnes, Hampton or Richmond.

Players are organised into groups of six to eight players and matches can be arranged at mutually convenient times. Any court that suits both players can be used. 

Anyone who completes three matches before the halfway point in the league is sent a free can of tennis balls. Prizes are available for the winner of each group.

Trumpeters House Art Fair

You are invited to the magnificent grounds of Trumpeters House for an Art Fair and Garden Party on Sunday 23 June from 11.30am to 5pm.

It will be a fantastic day out for the whole family with a range of activities on the day as well as glorious art to buy. This event is run by SPEAR London who enable homeless people in South and West London to find secure accommodation and work towards a positive future.

Major gas works on Richmond Road

UPDATE 3/5/2019

The directional closure on Richmond Road and accompanying parking restrictions on Crown Road in Twickenham to facilitate major gas works have been temporarily lifted for operational reasons. Bus stops on Richmond Road have also been temporarily lifted.

The restrictions and closures of bus stops will resume on Tuesday 7 May and are expected to remain in place for a further 2 weeks with expected completion by Sunday 19 May. We apologise for the inconvenience to residents and businesses in the area during this time.

Gritters assemble!

The Council's gritters are on the frontline battling the latest cold snap with 4 main routes being gritted a total of 6 occasions since Tuesday. In that time, they've spread 180 tonnes of salt covering 780 miles.

And they will be out again tonight from 8pm through to tomorrow morning gritting primary and secondary routes. Primary footways will also be gritted from 6.30am if there is snow accumulation on them.

Christmas events road closures

There are a number of Christmas events taking place across the borough this weekend which will cause road closures.

Whitton High Street Christmas lights switch on will take place on Sunday 25 November. Whitton High Street will be closed from 9am to 7pm. 

Twickenham Christmas lights switch on will take place on Sunday 25 November. Water Lane and Church Street will be closed from 9am to 7pm.

Have your say on proposed bus route changes

Residents across the borough are encouraged to take part in Transport for London’s consultation on its proposed changes to bus routes 110, 419, H37, 493 and H22.

You can have your say online, by emailing consultations@tfl.gov.uk, or in writing to FREEPOST TFL CONSULTATIONS before the deadline on Sunday 6 January 2019.

Join in the Richmond Health Walks

Richmond Health Walks are free, organised group walks to increase physical activity in a safe and social atmosphere.

Each walk lasts between 45 and 70 minutes and will be supervised by at least two walk leaders. Shorter and slower walks are also available for beginners and those with limiting health conditions.

Richmond's Volunteer Fair 2019

Get a flavour of some of the huge range of opportunities that are on your doorstep at this year's Volunteer Fair at Richmond and Hillcroft Adult and Community College (RHACC) on Thursday 6 June 2019.

With over 40 local organisations attending, the fair will run from 2 to 6pm. You can browse information, talk to staff and volunteers and get inspired to find the right role for you.

Join Mayor and the Dialogue Society for an Iftar Dinner

Join the Mayor and the Dialogue Society at Clarendon Hall from 7.30pm on Sunday 12 May for an Iftar Dinner to mark the breaking of fast during Ramadan. The evening offers us a time to think around the theme of unity, and will include talks from the Dialogue Society and the Mayor, music, and a meal to be shared by all.

The event is free but a donation towards the Mayor's charities Refuge and Time to Help UK would be appreciated.

Residents give thumbs up to electric charging points

Proposals to install on-street electric charging points are proceeding to planning after receiving positive response from local residents. Following a consultation, 76% of those who took part were in favour of installing more free standing kerbside EV charging points. 

Planning applications will now be submitted for the units. As part of this process, residents will have a further opportunity to have their say on proposals.

Construction for new Richmond campus

Richmond upon Thames College and construction partner ISG have marked the beginning of a major £80 million campus redevelopment. 

Over 70 people attended a ceremony on Friday 15 June to celebrate the beginning of phase 1 construction.

Major filming: Richmond town centre

A large scale film shoot will be taking place in Richmond town centre for six days (31 March, 1 to 4 April and 7 April). Throughout this time, filming will be based in a number of locations, including; Richmond Riverside, Richmond Green area and Whittaker Avenue.

Richmond will be fully open for business during the filming, however residents are encouraged to look at the following web pages to make sure that they are aware of the road closures and parking restrictions.

The new garden waste contracts for 1 November 2018 to 31 October 2019 have now started.

If you have renewed your contract and have not received your new yellow sticker within five working days, please submit a replacement sticker request. Please be aware that the waste crew will not empty bins with an orange sticker.

Christmas Day Dinner Richmond need your help

The volunteers behind the Christmas Day Dinner in Richmond are kindly asking for gift donations to fill 50 stockings for young adults aged 18 to 25 from across the borough who have recently left the care system.

Presents for the guests can be dropped off at Positive, Willoughby House, 439 Richmond Road, TW1 2AG on Friday 14 December between 9.30am and 5pm

Last chance to support a Community Fund project

This week is the last chance to show your support for one of the projects looking for funding through the Community Fund. 

Nine projects were shortlisted from a total of 28 projects and have the opportunity to receive a share of the £1 million Community Fund which comes from the Community Infrastructure Levy.

May bank holiday recycling and waste collection services

Following the bank holiday on Monday 27 May, the waste and recycling collections (including Garden Waste collections) for domestic properties will take place one day later than usual.
