Wave of money caught for charity in fish and chip cruise

More than 120 guests joined the Mayor on a cruise down the Thames which included a fish and chip supper, and complimentary drink.

The cruise helped raise £3,200 for the Mayor’s charities Off the Record (Twickenham), Me, Too and Co, and Cavernoma Alliance UK.

Get your tickets for RCVS Volunteer Fair

If you've been thinking of how you could add to your community, come and get a flavour of some of the huge range of opportunities that are on your doorstep at this year's Volunteer Fair at Richmond and Hillcroft Adult and Community College.

With over 40 local organisations attending, the fair will open at 2pm, after which you can browse information, talk to staff and volunteers, and get inspired to find the right role for you. Drop in any time up to 6pm.

Big names line up for Barnes Children's Literature Festival

London's largest children's book event, the Barnes Children's Literature Festival, returns on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 May. There will be over 80 fun events and numerous free activities for young book fans and their families.

Famous faces are to include the UK’s favourite comedian Harry Hill, CBeebies star Ben Faulks AKA Mr Bloom and former model and writer, Lily Cole. Tickets on sale now.

Townmead Road Re-use and Recycling Centre busier than usual

We are currently experiencing high demand for the use of Townmead Road Re-use and Recycling Centre, resulting in traffic queuing and delays on the surrounding road network.

Residents are advised to make their journey in the morning, if possible, and expect delays in the area.

St Margarets Fair is an annual community event and they are looking for local businesses and organisations, both big and small, to hold a stall on Saturday 7 July 2018.

Woodville Centre raising awareness of dementia

Family, friends and carers of people who live with dementia are invited to attend a Dementia Awareness Day in the borough.

The event will take place from 10.30am to 2.30pm on Monday 21 May at the Woodville Centre, Woodville Road, Ham, TW10 7QW. Attendees will be able to see how we can work together to help people live well with dementia.

Major filming: Richmond town centre

A large scale film shoot will be taking place in Richmond town centre for six days (31 March, 1 to 4 April and 7 April). Throughout this time, filming will be based in a number of locations, including; Richmond Riverside, Richmond Green area and Whittaker Avenue.

Richmond will be fully open for business during the filming, however residents are encouraged to look at the following web pages to make sure that they are aware of the road closures and parking restrictions.

February Half Term at Orleans House Gallery

Get creative this February half term with a selection of exciting artistic workshops happening at Orleans House Gallery. Become inspired by the Gallery and its surroundings, and experiment with print, collage, plaster and more while working with experienced artists!

Garden waste contracts

The new garden waste contracts for 1 November 2018 to 31 October 2019 have now started.

If you have renewed your contract and have not received your new yellow sticker within five working days, please submit a replacement sticker request. Please be aware that the waste crew will not empty bins with an orange sticker.

Christmas Day Dinner Richmond need your help

The volunteers behind the Christmas Day Dinner in Richmond are kindly asking for gift donations to fill 50 stockings for young adults aged 18 to 25 from across the borough who have recently left the care system.

Presents for the guests can be dropped off at Positive, Willoughby House, 439 Richmond Road, TW1 2AG on Friday 14 December between 9.30am and 5pm

Parks’ picnickers asked to pick up after themselves

Potential litterbugs are being asked to consider the environment and other visitors when visiting the borough’s parks and open spaces.

Recent good weather has meant more people are choosing our renowned parks for a picnic in the sun but some people are leaving their rubbish behind. With the onset of summer, visitors to the borough’s parks are reminded that barbecues and open fires are not permitted in council parks.

Richmond winners in the mini marathon!

Athletes from Richmond upon Thames did the borough proud at last weekend’s London Mini-Marathon.

Barnes resident, Ava White finished 1st in London in the under-15 category and Teddington School student Freya Thompson finished 2nd in London for the under-17 category.

Team Richmond did the borough proud finishing 3rd overall on the day!

Jack and Jill School May Fair 2018

The Jack & Jill May Fair is back on 13 May with everything from funfair rides and jolly jars, to vintage games, live bands, face painting and glitter tattoos. Plus the incredible Silent Auction and great raffle prizes!

The fair takes place on Twickenham Green from 12 noon to 5pm. All the money raised on the day will go to three charities, African Revival, Shooting Star Chase and Scarlett Lill fund.

The Great Mortlake Bake Off returns this May!

The Great Mortlake Bake Off returns this May. Come along to showcase your baking talent or admire that of other locals at the event from 1 to 5pm, Saturday 12 May at St Mary the Virgin Church, Mortlake, SW14 8JA.

The five baking competition categories are Primary school, Secondary school, Chocolate, Sponge, Showstopper. Competitors and spectators must buy tickets in advance.

Community groups lead the way in fight against litter

A community litter pick has made a huge difference to the environment around the Small Profits towpath and wooded area near Ferry Lane.

Led by the Barnes Tidy Towpath Group, the nine litter picker members collected a whole range of items including small plastics, bits of polystyrene and bottle tops, enough to fill a number of bags that the Council were able to collect.

Gritters assemble!

The Council's gritters are on the frontline battling the latest cold snap with 4 main routes being gritted a total of 6 occasions since Tuesday. In that time, they've spread 180 tonnes of salt covering 780 miles.

And they will be out again tonight from 8pm through to tomorrow morning gritting primary and secondary routes. Primary footways will also be gritted from 6.30am if there is snow accumulation on them.

Christmas events road closures

There are a number of Christmas events taking place across the borough this weekend which will cause road closures.

Whitton High Street Christmas lights switch on will take place on Sunday 25 November. Whitton High Street will be closed from 9am to 7pm. 

Twickenham Christmas lights switch on will take place on Sunday 25 November. Water Lane and Church Street will be closed from 9am to 7pm.

Residents across the borough are encouraged to take part in Transport for London’s consultation on its proposed changes to bus routes 110, 419, H37, 493 and H22.

Join in the Richmond Health Walks

Richmond Health Walks are free, organised group walks to increase physical activity in a safe and social atmosphere.

Each walk lasts between 45 and 70 minutes and will be supervised by at least two walk leaders. Shorter and slower walks are also available for beginners and those with limiting health conditions.
