LSCB Walking out of Darkness 2019

The LSCB Walking Out Of Darkness fundraiser event will take place in London on Saturday 18 May 2019 at the Battersea Park Bandstand, SW11 4NJ.

This year Walking out of Darkness events will promote Mental Health Equality for All. Join thousands of past participants who have previously donated over £300,000 to mental health or suicide prevention charities.

Thee event will start at 9am, and ticket prices range from £0 to £10.

Electric vehicle charging points consultation

Have your say on potential locations for new electric vehicle charging points around the borough. We are partnering with Source London to install the new points in Hampton Wick, Heathfield, St Margarets and North Twickenham, Teddington, Twickenham Riverside, West Twickenham and Whitton.

The KewTW9 Association has been awarded a £450 Civic Pride grant to help with improvements to its website.

The improvements will make it easier for local groups to upload information and news to the website. It will also allow to local businesses to publicise services and events.

Virginia Woolf statue in Richmond

Aurora Metro Arts & Media are fundraising to create the first life-size bronze statue of Virginia Woolf in the UK, having now been granted planning permission after successful public consultation.

Virginia Woolf lived in Richmond upon Thames with her husband Leonard from 1914 to 1924 where she developed as a writer and wrote short stories, essays, reviews and novels.

Eel Pie Island Jazz and Wine Tasting River Cruise

Spring at the Bandstand

The next Middlesex Yeomanry Band Concert, Spring at the Bandstand, will be held on Sunday 31 March from 2.30pm at YMCA White House in Hampton.

Court agrees firmer enforcement approach on unauthorised encampment

Last week, the High Court agreed to a temporary borough-wide preventative injunction to protect all of our parks, open spaces and highways. This will expedite matters and prevent encampments relocating to other council land.

The temporary injunction will last for three months, upon which we will apply for a permanent measure.

To get the area looking at its very best for the finals of Britain in Bloom, the Ham and Petersham Association is taking part in the Great British Spring Clean on Saturday 30 March.

Litter pickers will meet at Ham Pond from 10am - join local groups, schools and scouts who will be out to give the area a good spring clean!

Local author nominated for 2019 Children’s Book Award

John Condon, a local author who lives in Teddington has been chosen by the children of the Children’s Book Award as one of the Top 10 books for the 2019 award in Younger Children category.

His book, The Wondrous Dinosaurium is a quirky, hilarious picture book about the trials and rewards of finding the perfect pet.

The winner will be announced at the Award's Day on Saturday 8 June in Kensington, London.

Cabinet approves 20mph limit

Cabinet has approved amended proposals for a 20mph limit in Richmond upon Thames. The new proposals take into account the views of residents received during the 12-week consultation held last year.

The new proposals take into account the views of residents, including a revision of the proposed 20mph speed limit on the A308 between Kingston and Hampton, including Hampton Court Road, Upper Sunbury Road and Lower Sunbury Road (excluding Thames Street).

London Our Space Award is now open

The Our Space Award is a grant scheme, which was launched by the charity Groundwork London back in the spring of 2018, to encourage communities to take ownership and pride in their local spaces.

Local community groups can now apply for a grant between £500 and £5,000 to either create or improve an open space; whether that is a park, housing estate, town centre, woodland, or school grounds.

Applications are open until Monday 25 March, 5pm.

We have developed a programme of accessible activities for Barnes Green, Ham Village Green and Heathfield Recreation Ground over the spring and summer months. These parks have pathways suitable for wheelchair and walking aid users.

All activities are free and will go ahead no matter what the weather is like or how many people turn up. Booking is not required.
