Bank your bras at Richmond Council

We have teamed up with Against Breast Cancer to collect old bras. For every tonne of bras collected, the charity receives vital funds for pioneering breast cancer research.

A collection point has been placed in the Civic Centre reception. The collected garments will be sorted by the charity and wearable bras will be given a new lease of life, sent to developing countries such as Togo, Ghana and Kenya, where bras remain too expensive to produce locally.

Take Action to Climate Change

On Tuesday 12 November we held afternoon tea party with the Mayor of Richmond upon Thames, Cllr Nancy Baldwin to congratulate the winner and four runners-up designs in the Climate Change flag competition for primary schools in the borough.

The winner was Skye Vanderhart from Thomson House School, whose design has now been produced on a full size flag to be flown outside of the Civic Centre in Twickenham. Each of the finalists received a personalised and signed copy of David Attenborough's book.

New trail arrives at the Landmark Arts Centre

The Landmark in Teddington has launched a new Family Trail to open up the community space to more families and schools.

The project has been developed to encourage children to explore the centre to learn more about the history of the 19th century building and what it has to offer.

The trail is free, open to all during normal opening hours with no need to book. For more information call 020 8977 7558.

Preferred Bidder identified for Twickenham Riverside redevelopment competition

Following a two-stage competition process and extensive public engagement, Richmond Council and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) are delighted to announce that Hopkins Architects has been selected by the Design Panel as the preferred bidder to work with the Council on the Twickenham Riverside project.

Richmond Christmas Lights Switch On

This year's Richmond town centre Christmas Lights Switch On event on Thursday 21 November offers a packed schedule of activities throughout the day and throughout the town.

This year will include a fabulous festive market in Hill Rise from 12pm, the world-renowned Band of The Irish Guards, Santa, appearances by Paddington, Snow White panto characters and spectacular fireworks.

Barnes Art Fair

Barnes artists are delighted to invite you to the annual Barnes Art Fair taking place in St Michael & All Angels church this week.

The fair will showcase artwork by 40 established local and guest artists, with all work for sale. A preview evening will take place this Wednesday 13 November from 6-9pm.

World AIDS Day

Spectra-London will be offering free and confidential HIV tests, distributing condoms and discussing safe sex strategies and behaviours for staff and local residents on Tuesday 26 November in The Terrace Parlour Room at York House from 9.30am to 5pm.

World AIDS Day is an opportunity for people all over the world to come together to celebrate the achievements that have been made in the fight against HIV/AIDS, to stand in solidarity with those living with HIV and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness.

Park Lane Stables RDA shortlisted for Carriage Driving Award

The Park Lane Stables RDA group have been shortlisted for a national award by Carriage Driving Magazine for offering carriage driving sessions for people with disabilities, learning difficulties and mental health issues on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons in Bushy Park.

The team were invited to the Awards Ceremony at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Birmingham last Friday 1 November, and received a Highly Commended award to mark their fantastic achievements.

Roar with delight this Christmas

Children and families can join the Mayor of Richmond upon Thames for a charity screening of Disney’s original Lion King this Christmas on Saturday 14 December.

Tickets are now on sale and cost only £5. All money raised will be donated to the Mayor’s Charities: Home-Start and the Otakar Kraus Music Trust.

Free Magic Shows on Diamond Jubilee Gardens

On Sunday 24 November, Christmas is coming to Twickenham Riverside! The ever-popular reindeer are making a return appearance, this year accompanied by free face painting and a Hall of Bendy Mirrors.

The star attraction in the Big Tent will be the free Magic Shows starting at 12.30pm, 2pm, 3.30pm and 5pm. Free tickets to all four shows are available on the day only, from 11.30am up on the Gardens.

Implementation of new DIY disposal charge delayed for review

A new charge for residents wanting to dispose of construction and demolition waste ('DIY waste') at Richmond’s Household Waste and Recycling Centre in Kew will not go live on 2 December as planned, but will allow for a review to be completed.

Further information regarding a revised scheme is expected to be issued early next year.

Help support the Ruils Rambling Reindeer

The Ruils Rambling Reindeer team of staff, clients and friends of Ruils are taking part in the Winter Wonderwheels challenge to raise money towards services for disabled children.

Winter Wonderwheels was created by a Paralympic Athlete, Sophia Warner, and involves walking, running and wheeling around a course in festive superhero style.

You can help by sponsoring Ruils to help them raise much needed funds.

80 volunteers help clear the River Thames

The 2019 Thames Draw Off organised by Be Richmond and Environment Trust took place earlier this month. Over 80 volunteers from local organisations and businesses across London successfully cleared a variety of litter, plastic, glass and other rubbish from the riverbed. Larger waste included boat chains and scrap metal.

None of the items collected will go to landfill and most of the general waste will be used to generate ‘green’ energy by recycling specialists, First Mile.

Richmond's New Year's Day Parade needs you!

It's been more than a decade, but Richmond is back at London's prestigious New Year's Day Parade.

A group of volunteers will be working together to showcase the very best of Richmond at this year's parade, to celebrate Richmond's love of life as they march through central London.

You can help support the group by donating funds towards the logistics to make Richmond's parade entry an absolute triumph. Any money we raise in addition to this will be donated to the Mayor's official charities.

Derby Day: Richmond FC vs Rosslyn Park
