February Half Term at Orleans House Gallery

Get creative this February half term with a selection of exciting artistic workshops happening at Orleans House Gallery. Become inspired by the Gallery and its surroundings, and experiment with print, collage, plaster and more while working with experienced artists!

Workshops commence from Monday 18 to Thursday 21 February 2019. All materials are included, SEND concessions are also available.

Garden waste contracts

The new garden waste contracts for 1 November 2018 to 31 October 2019 have now started.

If you have renewed your contract and have not received your new yellow sticker within five working days, please submit a replacement sticker request. Please be aware that the waste crew will not empty bins with an orange sticker.

If you have not renewed your contract, you can renew online.

Christmas Day Dinner Richmond need your help

The volunteers behind the Christmas Day Dinner in Richmond are kindly asking for gift donations to fill 50 stockings for young adults aged 18 to 25 from across the borough who have recently left the care system.

Presents for the guests can be dropped off at Positive, Willoughby House, 439 Richmond Road, TW1 2AG on Friday 14 December between 9.30am and 5pm

Last chance to support a Community Fund project

This week is the last chance to show your support for one of the projects looking for funding through the Community Fund. 

Nine projects were shortlisted from a total of 28 projects and have the opportunity to receive a share of the £1 million Community Fund which comes from the Community Infrastructure Levy.

Halloween in Church Street

There will be lots of spooky things happening this Halloween in Church Street, Twickenham.

The street will be celebrating from 5 to 8pm, on Wednesday 31 October. There will be stalls, face painting, street-food, live music, fair rides and much more. The free event is organised by the Church Street Association and Twickenham Town Business Association.

The team who organised Christmas Day Dinner in Richmond for care leavers last year will soon be meeting to discuss this years event. The community group aim to ensure that care leavers aged 18 to 25 living in the borough are not alone this Christmas.

Richmond Fire Station Open Day

Meet your local firefighters at the Richmond Fire Station Open Day on Saturday 22 September 2018. From 12 noon to 4pm you can chat with firefighters for fire safety advice, meet the fire investigation dogs and watch rescue unit demonstrations.

A fire engine will also be on display along with various stalls and games.

Christmas events road closures

There are a number of Christmas events taking place across the borough this weekend which will cause road closures.

Whitton High Street Christmas lights switch on will take place on Sunday 25 November. Whitton High Street will be closed from 9am to 7pm. 

Twickenham Christmas lights switch on will take place on Sunday 25 November. Water Lane and Church Street will be closed from 9am to 7pm.

Residents across the borough are encouraged to take part in Transport for London’s consultation on its proposed changes to bus routes 110, 419, H37, 493 and H22.

Join in the Richmond Health Walks

Richmond Health Walks are free, organised group walks to increase physical activity in a safe and social atmosphere.

Each walk lasts between 45 and 70 minutes and will be supervised by at least two walk leaders. Shorter and slower walks are also available for beginners and those with limiting health conditions.

Road closures in Kingston

Diversions and road closures around Kingston town centre and on Kingston Bridge will be in place overnight from 8pm on Saturday 23 March to 12 noon on Sunday 24 March.

Teddington and Hampton:

  • Kingston Bridge will be closed from west to east, and road users are advised to travel into Kingston along Portsmouth Road.

Richmond and Richmond Road:

  • Traffic will be unable to return via Kingsgate Road, but will be diverted across Kingston Bridge towards Hampton and Teddington.

A308 Emergency works

Due to a gas leak emergency works are taking place on the A308 Hampton Court Road towards Kempton Park. SGN will be working towards getting this completed before the scheduled end date of 5 February. Please avoid the area as there will be significant delays as a result.


Virginia Woolf in Richmond

Aurora Metro Arts & Media have launched a campaign to commission a statue of Virginia Woolf in Richmond upon Thames, where she lived with her husband Leonard from 1914 to 1924.

Virginia developed as a writer and wrote short stories, essays, reviews and novels while living in Richmond. She worked with her husband to set up the Hogarth Press in Richmond.

The target for the statue is £50,000 and over £200 has already been raised from those who attended the talk during the Richmond Literary Festival.

Emergency Thames water works on Richmond Road

UPDATE - Tuesday 13 November 2018

Emergency waterworks are currently being carried out on a large section of damaged sewer main at 391 Richmond Road.

In an effort to complete the works, Thames Water have moved to 24 hour working with expected completion the week commencing 19 November

Due to the prolonged completion of these works, daily fines will be applied to Thames Water from Tuesday 13 November.

Stop and Go boards are being used to manage traffic between 7am to 7pm, and temporary lights between 7pm to 7am. Expect delays in the immediate area.

Townmead Road festive closing times

Last entry to Townmead Road on Mondays 24 and 31 December 2018 will be 2.45pm. No entry will be permitted after this time.

The site will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
