Major milestone for Twickenham Riverside as site prepared for construction
25 March 2026
The much-anticipated regeneration of Twickenham Riverside is reaching another major milestone, with preparation works nearly complete and essential infrastructure works about to begin – meaning the site is now almost ready for main construction.
Councillor Gareth Roberts, Leader of Richmond Council, said: “This is a really important moment for the project.
“With demolition completed and the site now largely prepared, we’re moving steadily toward the main construction phase that will bring a new riverside for Twickenham to life.
“Residents will continue to see progress on site over the coming weeks as the next stage of infrastructure works gets under way,” Councillor Roberts added.
Over recent months, the Council and its construction partner Kier have been carrying out extensive enabling works to prepare the riverside site for development – including the demolition of former buildings along King Street and specialist groundworks to begin preparing the land for construction.
In the coming weeks, drainage works will begin across the site – installing the underground infrastructure needed to support the new buildings, public spaces and flood defence features planned for the development.
Councillor Jim Millard, Deputy Leader of Richmond Council and Lead Member for Finance, said: “This regeneration is one of the most significant investments in Twickenham town centre for a generation.
“We are now seeing real momentum on site as the project moves from preparation into the stages that will deliver new homes, public space and a revitalised riverside for the community.”
Once complete, the regeneration will transform the town’s waterfront with new public gardens and terraced lawns, improved pedestrian routes linking King Street to the river, children’s play areas, independent shops and cafés, and 45 new homes including affordable housing.
