Twickenham Riverside: On Site momentum builds with completion of King Street demolition

22 January 2026

Demolition of the former retail units on King Street is now complete, marking a major milestone in creating the new heart of Twickenham.

The wider demolition including the old pool buildings and former café is due to finish in the coming weeks.

The Council and construction company Kier are taking a sustainable approach to the works, with 95% of demolition materials set to be recycled or reused. Real-time monitoring is in place to manage dust, noise and vibration, and residents’ access to the riverside will be maintained during the works.

What's coming next

  • New public spaces including terraced lawns, gardens, children’s play areas and riverside seating
  • 45 new homes – including affordable housing – alongside new shops, café and community spaces
  • Improved pedestrian and vehicle connections between King Street, Wharf Lane, Water Lane and the riverside

The demolition will be followed by final site clearance, paving the way for main construction to start next month.
