Recycle your electrical items

Anything with a plug, battery or cable can be reused or recycled.

There are several options available for residents to dispose of old household electronic equipment:

• Recycle small electrical items at 30 community banks or weekly kerbside collections
• Recycle larger electrical items by booking a bulky item or fridge freezer collection
• Recycle a range of electrical items at Townmead Road Reuse and Recycling centre
• Donate or exchange unwanted electrical items in good condition
• Other ways to recycle your electricals, including at retail outlets

Community recycling banks

You can recycle small domestic electrical items for free at 30 convenient banks around the borough.

View the list of locations below to find out which of our 20 new bright pink banks is nearest to you. These have been provided by not-for-profit Material Focus as part of their Recycle Your Electricals campaign.

You can also recycle these small electricals for free at 10 local libraries, excluding Kew and the Reference Library.

The size limit for items is 21cm x 19cm - this is up to the size of a two-slice toaster.

What you can and can't recycle

• Desk phones, mobile phones

• Hair dryers
• Portable radios
• Hi-Fi and CD players
• DVD players
• Bread makers
• Slow cookers
• Food processors, blenders, juicers and other similar items

You cannot recycle:

• Vapes
• Hoovers
• Microwave ovens 
• TVs and screens
• Lawnmowers
• Loose batteries 
• Light bulbs or fluorescent lights
• Printers

Kerbside collections

Households that currently receive kerbside recycling collections can easily recycle small electrical items, from the list above, from home.

Simply present used, broken and unwanted small electrical items next to your weekly mixed container black box collections, in a standard-size, open carrier bag. 

Bulky item and fridge freezer collections

You can book a bulky item collection to get large free standing electrical goods collected. 

We also provide a fridge freezer collection service.

When you book any of these collections, we can also pick up and recycle small electrical items for free.

Townmead Road Reuse and Recycling Centre

Separate containers are provided at Townmead Road to recycle a range of electrical items.

If you don't know which container to place your electrical items, ask a member of staff on site who will be happy to assist.

Donate or exchange items

Consider donating, selling, sharing or repairing your electrical item if it’s still in good condition. There are plenty of local resources available to support.
