Mega Skip Days
On selected Saturdays each month, we host Mega Skip Days. They give Richmond residents the opportunity to dispose of bulky items for free.
Large skips are placed in different parts of the borough for a few hours at a time. We do this in partnership with RHP and Richmond Furniture Scheme, who collect reusable furniture to upcycle and redistribute back into the community.
Because our Mega Skip Days usually happen in just one location at a time, we focus on notifying nearby households to avoid overcrowding and make sure local residents can benefit. We encourage residents to sign up for local alerts.
Get notified when a skip's near you
When our mega skips visit your area they'll be available from 9am until 12 noon, or until the skips are full - whichever comes first.

What you can bring
Each household can bring up to six items, including:
- Sofas, mattresses and furniture
- Smaller electrical appliances
- Black bags
One black bag counts as one item, as does one sofa and one mattress, for example.
We cannot accept:
- Hazardous or sharp objects - including weapons of any kind
- Paint or chemicals
- Car batteries or flammable liquids
- Concrete, cement, rubble or hardcore
- Plasterboard or asbestos
- Engine oil or cooking oil
If you're unsure about an item, please just ask a friendly member of onsite staff on the day. We ask that you please be courteous when dropping off items - we won't tolerate any aggressive or abusive behaviour directed towards our staff.
Other ways to dispose of large items
If you miss your local Mega Skip Day, you can:
- Book a bulky waste collection
- Book a free slot to visit Townmead Road Reuse and Recycling Centre, which now accepts certain household items in good condition for donation at its reuse drop-off area
Donate, share or repair your items
Could your items be donated, sold, shared or repaired to help reduce waste? There are many local services that make it easy to give your reusable items a new home.
