Try Before You Bike
Try Before You Bike (TBYB) is a council-supported scheme that makes it easy and affordable to trial a bike before committing to ownership. Instead of upfront costs, monthly payments go towards a purchase.
The scheme is suitable for anyone looking to make cycling part of everyday life.
For residents
You can choose a bike that suits your lifestyle. All bikes include:
- Accessories
- Insurance
- Home delivery
Hire fees are 50% subsidised by us. Both the voucher and your payments go towards owning the bike if you decide to keep it.
Bike costs:
- Pedal bike – £25 per month (50% off for 6 months)
- E-bike – £60 per month (50% off for 6 months)
- Electric cargo bike – £150 per month (50% off for 12 months)
No upfront payment, no commitment - just a chance to try cycling in a way that works for you.
For local businesses
Local businesses can get access to a high-quality electric cargo bike for six months at no cost. There is no commitment and no hidden fees.
At the end of the trial, you can choose to either:
- Buy the bike at a discounted rate
- Continue to hire it
- Return it with no strings attached
Cargo bikes can help businesses:
- Make local deliveries
- Travel between sites
- Switch to a more sustainable mode of transport
