Allotments issues and queries

Applications suspended

Applications are currently suspended due to high numbers of people on the waiting list. Applicants who are already on the list will not be affected.

In December 2023 we will review the position to see whether we can re-open the lists or whether we need to keep them closed until later in 2024.

Visit our Allotments waiting list page to find out the waiting time for each of our sites.

New keys

Only registered allotment holders can buy a new or replacement key. Each key costs £15 (including postage).

Once your request and payment has been submitted your key(s) will be posted to you within five working days.

Water supply

We turn water on at sites from 1 April and turn off on 31 October, so there is no water in the pipes or taps from 1 November to 31 March.

Water leaks

If there is a water leak, a dripping tap or no water at your allotment site contact us so we can log this issue with our facilities management team and get a plumber out to your site.

In order for us to do this, ensure you provide this information:

  • Allotment site and plot number(s)
  • Location of standpipe or tap
  • Describe the leak, e.g. if the tap is jammed, dripping or it is a gushing leak.

To report this contact us by:

Break ins

If you would like to report a crime in your allotment contact us and provide full details so we can investigate further:

Also, you should notify your Local Police Safer Neighbourhoods Team about this incident.

Any threatening behaviour should be reported to be Police by dialling 101.

View our guidelines to report antisocial behaviour from another plot holder.

Terms and conditions

All plot holders must adhere to the terms and conditions to ensure the appropriate use of each site, and to find out what you can grow, whether dogs are permitted or allotment inspections and terminations.

Ending your tenancy

If you want to stop your allotment tenancy you will need to provide the following information:

  • Allotment site and plot number(s)
  • Date you want to leave

You can do this by sending an email to the Allotments team at allotments@richmond.gov.uk or calling us on 020 8831 6110.

Sending your keys

Also, you will need to post your keys to:

Jo Rodgers, Allotments Officer
Civic Centre
44 York Street
Twickenham
TW1 3BZ

When sending your keys, include details for your bank account name, number and sort code so that we can arrange a key refund.

We do not do partial refunds for allotment rents (if you paid your rent in October and then leave in February you cannot reclaim the portion of your rent from March to September).
