Charge your car for free for Clean Air day!

Release Date: 30 September 2020

For one day only - drivers with an electric vehicle will be able to charge their car for free to celebrate Clean Air day.

Clean Air Day (8 October) is the UK's largest air pollution campaign. It aims to improve public understanding of air pollution, how it affects our health and what we can all do to tackle it, helping to protect the environment and our health.

As air quality continues to deteriorate across the Capital, providing an emission-free solution to transport is a priority for Richmond Council.

The number of electric vehicles in the borough is increasing rapidly, leading to more and more resident requests for charging points.

Richmond upon Thames currently has around 200 on-street chargers fitted to lamp posts, in partnership with Siemens and leading EV charging provider Ubitricity.

On 8 October, Ubitricity is giving EV drivers a FREECHARGE.  Any car plugged in to a public Ubitricity charging station in the borough between 00.01am and 11.59pm on that day will receive their charge session at zero cost.

Cllr Alexander Ehmann, Chair of the Transport and Air Quality Committee for Richmond Council, said:

“We need to accelerate the electrification of transport by encouraging more people to exchange their polluting vehicles for EVs.

“We have well over 200 charging points available across the borough already, with more installations planned later this year.

“Hopefully this promotion will encourage even more people to go ‘electric’, they are becoming cheaper to buy and run, more convenient to charge and use, and most importantly they are better for the environment and air quality.”
