Take cycling for a test ride with our Try Before You Bike offer

Residents in Richmond upon Thames are encouraged to discover the benefits of cycling through our Try Before You Bike (TBYB) scheme, making it easier and more affordable to get on two wheels.

Residents can choose from:

• Pedal bike or e-bike: £25 per month for six months (total value £150)
• Electric cargo bike: £150 per month for 12 months (total value £1,800)

Councillor Alexander Ehmann, Deputy Leader of Richmond Council and Chair of the Transport and Air Quality Committee, said: "We want to make it as easy as possible for residents to choose healthier, more sustainable ways to travel around the borough.

"Try Before You Bike gives people the opportunity to experience the benefits of cycling without the commitment of buying a bike straight away. Whether you're looking for a simpler commute, a more enjoyable school run or an alternative to using the car for local journeys, this scheme makes it easy to give cycling a go.

"By helping more people get on bikes, we're supporting cleaner air, reducing congestion and continuing our ambition to make Richmond upon Thames the cargo bike capital of London."

From carrying children and shopping to replacing short car journeys, cargo bikes and e-bikes are becoming an increasingly popular way to travel around the borough. The TBYB scheme allows residents to find the right bike for their lifestyle and see how cycling could work for them before making a longer-term commitment.

Try a cargo bike at Richmond's Cargo Bike Fair

Residents interested in cargo bikes can also experience them first-hand at Richmond's Cargo Bike Fair on Sunday 20 September.

Set against the backdrop of the Richmond Cycle Hub, just a stone's throw from Richmond Station, the free event will bring together bike retailers, cycling experts and local organisations to showcase how cargo bikes can transform everyday journeys.

Visitors will be able to test ride a wide range of cargo bikes and get expert advice. Whether you're curious about cargo bikes or ready to make the switch, the fair is the perfect opportunity to try one for yourself and find out why more residents are choosing pedal power for everyday journeys.
