Let’s waste less this Recycle Week!
22 September 2025
From leftovers in the fridge to gadgets in the drawer, find out more about how we can help reduce landfill waste.
Recycle Week, taking place from 22 to 28 September, aims to get everyone recycling more and avoiding unnecessary waste. Find out what you can do to recycle better!
Give your leftovers a second chance
Did you know that in Richmond upon Thames, only 18% of food waste was captured for recycling? This means that we collectively threw away over 14,900 tonnes of food waste last year.
By recycling your food scraps, you are helping to reduce landfill waste and turn it into energy and fertiliser.
Find out what can and can't go in your food waste caddy.
Recycle your electrical items
Anything with a plug, battery or cable can be reused or recycled. Residents are encouraged to dispose of old household electronic equipment responsibly.
You can recycle small electrical items at 30 community banks or weekly kerbside collections. For larger electrical items such as bulky appliances or fridge freezers, you can book a dedicated collection. You can also recycle a range of electrical items at Townmead Road Reuse and Recycling centre.

Refresh your wardrobe for a good cause
We have partnered with TRAID to collect unwanted clothes and shoes from your home. Last year, residents in our borough donated more than 600 tonnes of textiles to TRAID, preventing nearly 3,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions compared to incineration.
If you are looking to clear out your wardrobe this autumn, why not book a collection online or call 020 8733 2595.
