Celebrate Black History Month at your local library

This October, Richmond libraries are marking Black History Month with a programme of events for all ages. Discover powerful stories, experience music and dance, and take part in activities that celebrate the creativity and achievements of Black communities.
Samuel Coleridge-Taylor exhibition
Throughout October, Black Cultural Archives’ exhibition on the renowned composer and conductor Samuel Coleridge-Taylor will be touring across the borough. Join us to explore the legacy of one of Britain’s most celebrated Black classical musicians.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy listening sessions featuring Coleridge-Taylor’s music and learn more about the cultural context that shaped his work.

The History of Black British Ballet
Presented by Dr Sandie Bourne, this free talk will shine a light on the stories of pioneering dancers who challenged discrimination, broke barriers and helped transform ballet.

Little dancers, big fun!
Delivered in partnership with Black British Ballet, this joyful session is designed for children aged 3 to 5 and their families. Through movement, imagination and storytelling, little dancers can explore rhythm and creativity in a fun, welcoming library setting.
