Special Richmond health walk to celebrate reopened towpath
27 November 2025
Residents are invited to join a special Richmond health walk on Monday 1 December 2025 along the popular Thames Path National Trail.
The walk will start at 10.30am outside the White Cross Hotel on Water Lane, Richmond, and follow a scenic linear route along the riverside, finishing at the Ship Inn, Mortlake SW14 7QR (near to the station and local bus routes).
The route includes the newly reinstated stretch of towpath between Richmond Lock and Kew Gardens, which reopened on 8 November following a year-long programme of major riverbank repairs.
Find out more about the restoration works to stabilise the riverbank and safeguard the towpath against future erosion.
The walk on 1 December is expected to last between one and one-and-a-half hours, offering participants the chance to enjoy uninterrupted views along one of the borough’s most popular walking routes.
To join, simply come along to the starting point 10 minutes before the stated start time. Please note, paths follow the towpath and sometimes cobbles and gravel tracks, which can be muddy and slippery when wet so please wear appropriate footwear.
The Richmond health walks are free, organised group walks for people who are currently not very active but would like to increase their physical activity. There are walks every day of the week throughout the year except Saturdays and public holidays.
