Whitton and Heathfield set for new affordable homes and a modernised community hub
25 March 2026
A major investment in Whitton is moving forward as Richmond Council delivers plans for new affordable homes, alongside a modern, energy efficient community centre designed to serve the local community.
Councillor Jim Millard, Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Finance, said: “Genuinely affordable homes, alongside a purpose-built building for the Whitton Community Centre, are a long-term investment in the area. Once completed, they will provide homes and facilities that support local residents for generations.”
The redevelopment is being designed in partnership with the Whitton Community Association (WCA) to ensure it reflects the needs and ambitions of the area.
Project highlights include:
- Affordable homes for social rent, helping meet local housing need
- A new, modern building for the Whitton Community Centre, designed for energy efficiency, accessibility, and long-term community use
- Ongoing community involvement, helping shape the designs and facilities.
A planning application is expected later this year, with further engagement to ensure local voices are heard prior to the submission.
Councillor Chris Varley, Lead Member for Housing, said: “This redevelopment is a major step in delivering high-quality homes for social rent and a community facility built for the future. Together, on one site, it strengthens Whitton and Heathfield’s role as a thriving, connected neighbourhood and reflects our commitment to a fairer, stronger borough.”
The Whitton Community Centre remains a central hub for Whitton and Heathfield, hosting a wide range of social, cultural, and wellbeing activities. Managed by the WCA – a local charity celebrating their 60th anniversary – the centre supports:
- Clubs, support groups, and small businesses
- Community events throughout the year, including Whitton Comedy Corner, Whitton Art and Craft Fairs, and the Trimble Lounge Café
- Event hire
The existing centre will remain open for bookings throughout this year and next, ensuring continuity for the many groups who call it home.
