Whitton Community Centre reprovision
Details of works to improve Whitton Community Centre. The centre remains open during this time.
Background
Whitton Community Centre is a place where local people take part in a range of fun, social, and enriching activities. The centre is managed by the Whitton Community Association, a charity with a long history in the area. These services play a pivotal role in enhancing the lives of residents in Whitton and Heathfield.
However, the condition of the centre building is no longer suitable due to structural and energy efficiency issues.
We have been working with Whitton Community Association to provide a community facility fit for the 21st century that can continue to support local residents for many years to come.
Timeline
The aim is to achieve planning consent early 2026. The WCA will continue to welcome bookings throughout 2026 and 2027.
In the meantime, we have embarked on our journey to develop designs for a new community centre on the same site and the delivery of a genuinely affordable housing scheme of up to 36 homes on the upper storeys.
New homes
The new homes will all be for social rent to support local people in registered housing need. This scheme aligns with our promise to invest in our community facilities and build more genuinely affordable homes across the borough that meet the needs of local residents and workers.
Community input
Community input into this project will be critical. We are working with the Whitton Community Association and other local representatives to develop the design and feasibility of the scheme. The centre remains very much open for business as usual.
