Celebrate courage this Refugee Week
1 June 2026
From 15 to 21 June, Refugee Week 2026 invites everyone to reflect on the theme of 'Courage'. Come along and experience a programme of inspiring events celebrating the resilience, creativity and diversity of our borough.
Discover and celebrate culture and community, through events delivered by us, local organisations and supported by our Refugee Week small grant. Read the full programme.
Stories from Richmond’s Hong Kong community
Multicultural Richmond is hosting Courage in Action, a welcoming community event featuring interactive stalls, hands-on activities, and a storyboard created by members of Richmond’s Hong Kong community, sharing their journeys to the UK and the challenges they’ve faced.
Explore Afghan culture
Our Refugee Week programme features Refugee Voices, a powerful event celebrating Afghan culture and community.
The event will bring people together through live Afghan and Central Asian music, dance, food and storytelling, alongside stalls offering local support.
Refugee Week celebration evening
On 18 June, join us at York House for an evening of music, food, art and community activities that honour the courage and contributions of sanctuary seekers in the borough.
Celebrate our diverse communities, connect with local groups and discover opportunities and support across the borough.
Celebrate Ukrainian creativity
We’re also supporting a series of Ukrainian-led events celebrating courage and creativity.
Join Prosperity for Ukraine’s crafting workshops for Varenyky making, Petrykivka painting and more!
Ukrainian St Mary’s Trust is featuring the everyday courage shown by displaced families rebuilding their lives through family-friendly art, music and cultural activities.
What’s more, Ukrainian Social Club’s Kupala Festival event will bring the celebrations to a joyful peak, uniting the community through music, poetry, crafts and shared stories of resilience.
Hear from SFIDA Albanian/Kosovan/Macedonia and Gorani Group
Free and open to all, the Courage, Culture and Community event will showcase artwork by former child refugees, intergenerational personal stories, traditional Albanian dance and shared food. Come along to support greater understanding, soften negative narratives and nurture a more connected Richmond.
