Get ahead of the game and get your health checked this Men’s Health Week
9 June 2025
This Men’s Health week (9 June - 15 June) we’re shining a spotlight on key services and support available in the borough to support men’s health and wellbeing.
You may be eligible for a free health check
If you’re aged between 40-74 you may be eligible for a free NHS Health check. This 20-minute check-up includes an assessment of your overall health and will assess whether you’re at higher risk of certain health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease and stroke.
You can also get your blood pressure checked on the Richmond Health Bus which will be parked at the Cargo Bike Fair on Saturday 15 June at Old Deer Park from 11am to 5pm.
Stop smoking support tailored to you
Our friendly Stop Smoking Service offers advice, support, and access to stop smoking Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRT). As part of the Swap to Stop Scheme we also offer free vape kits with supplies for up to 12 weeks.
Evidence shows that people are more likely to succeed with professional support - don’t go it alone! If you can't attend a bus, you can contact the Stop Smoking Service to discuss what support will work best for you
Mental health and wellbeing support services
There are many professional services and community initiatives in the borough to support your health and wellbeing.
Need to talk to someone? There are dedicated mental health services in the borough where you can connect with a professional or speak to a therapist for confidential advice and counselling. If you are concerned about your or someone else’s mental health, you can also contact your GP.
Connect with others
Men’s sheds are about social connections and friendship building, sharing skills and knowledge, and of course a lot of laughter. Men’s sheds are located in Barnes and Teddington.
Get moving with group walks and walking football
Join the Richmond Health walks to increase your walking at a slower pace, or to get back into the game, with walking football. This a slowed down version of the game designed for anyone looking to exercise in a relaxed, supportive and friendly environment. Join for just £5 courtesy of Age UK Richmond, every Wednesday morning from 10.30am at Teddington Lock Sports Field, part of St Mary’s University.
Discover local activities
Try an activity that is local, free or low cost by checking out the London Sport map or finding an activity for all abilities, run by local voluntary groups through the JoyApp.
Working toward a healthier Richmond
Becoming a healthier borough is about taking small steps as individuals to improve our health and wellbeing.
