Live free from violence and abuse this festive season
18 December 2025
The festive season is a wonderful time of year for many. However, for some it can be extra difficult. With added financial pressure and individual challenges people may have experienced this year, an increase in domestic abuse is anticipated throughout the holiday period.
Help is available 24/7 for those experiencing domestic abuse:
- In an emergency, call 999 to contact the police
- For confidential support and advice call the National Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 2000 247
Domestic abuse is defined as any incident of controlling, coercive, threatening, or violent behaviour or abuse between people who are partners or family members, regardless of their gender or sexuality. Domestic abuse can include, but is not limited to:
- Physical or sexual abuse
- Psychological or emotional abuse
- Controlling or coercive behaviour
- Violent or threatening behaviour
- Financial or economic abuse
Many survivors often don’t realise they’re being abused. Victim Support can help you recognise the signs of domestic abuse.
Remember to look out for your friends, neighbours and family members, and to reach out to them if it is safe to do so. You can also seek advice from the National Domestic Abuse Helpline.
