Twickenham Riverside enters its most visible phase yet

The transformation of Twickenham Riverside is becoming impossible to miss, with major construction now progressing across the site as the landmark redevelopment moves into its next phase.

With the substructure complete, the superstructure is now underway, with precast columns being installed across the site. New river defences are also taking shape, the first sections of the riverside bleacher seating have been cast, and work is progressing on the two new buildings, all marking the latest milestones in bringing the long-awaited regeneration of Twickenham Riverside another step closer.

Councillor Jim Millard, Deputy Leader of Richmond Council and Lead Member for Finance and Resources, said: “People can now really start to see Twickenham Riverside taking shape, and that’s an exciting milestone for everyone who’s followed this project.

“Every stage of construction brings us closer to delivering the Twickenham Riverside people have been waiting for – a place with new public spaces, better access to the River Thames, independent shops and businesses, and 45 new homes, half of them affordable, helping to meet local housing need.”

Construction continues to make strong progress across the site.

At the Water Lane building, work has now reached the second-floor following completion of the first-floor slab, columns and lift core. Meanwhile, the basement and ground-floor structure at the Wharf Lane building has been completed, paving the way for the next phase of construction.

Work on the new river defence wall is also progressing well, strengthening the river frontage while improving future public access to the riverside.

Councillor Millard added: “This has always been about creating a riverside that belongs to the community. As the transformation becomes more visible, we’re committed to keeping residents involved every step of the way and making sure they can see the progress they’re helping to shape.”

Last month, around 170 people, including nearby residents, local business representatives, councillors, contractors and members of the project team, gathered for a community event on site, where they were able to see the latest progress up close, ask questions and share feedback directly with those delivering the scheme.
