Residents, businesses given behind-the-scenes look as Twickenham Riverside takes shape

8 July 2026

Nearby residents and local businesses were given a behind-the-scenes look at the transformation of Twickenham Riverside this week, seeing first-hand the progress being made on one of the borough’s most significant regeneration projects.

Hosted by Richmond Council and Kier Construction, the special community event last night gave neighbours the opportunity to meet the team delivering the project, hear about the next phase of construction, ask questions and share feedback directly with councillors and contractors.

The event forms part of the council’s commitment to keeping residents and businesses informed and involved throughout construction as work continues.

Councillor Gareth Roberts, Leader of Richmond Council, said: “There’s real momentum on site, but it’s just as important that we keep residents and businesses informed as the project moves forward.

“Projects like this inevitably bring disruption as well as excitement, so it’s vital that people can hear directly from us, ask questions and understand what’s happening at every stage of the build. That’s exactly what events like this are about.

“We’ve always said we wanted Twickenham Riverside to be a project delivered with the community, not simply for the community. Speaking with local people, responding where we can and keeping those conversations going will remain a crucial part of how we deliver the project.

“We’ll keep listening, keep people informed and keep working with our community every step of the way.”

Last month, the council announced that major construction had moved into a new phase, with the visible structure of the development beginning to emerge above ground.

Works continue to make strong progress across the site. At Wharf Lane, more than 90 per cent of the critical below-ground work has now been completed, while around two-thirds of the new river defence wall and riverside steps are in place.

Similarly, at Water Lane, just 10 per cent of below-ground works remain, with around a quarter of the new building’s structure now complete.

John Bolton, Regional Director at Kier Construction said: “At Kier, we feel privileged to be working with Richmond Council and partners to deliver one of the most significant investments in Twickenham town centre for a generation.

“We are committed to making a positive difference in the communities where we work, and this scheme will provide vital homes, retail space and public green spaces that will benefit residents and visitors for many generations to come. This event was an opportunity to celebrate progress on this fantastic project with local residents, businesses and delivery partners – thank you to everyone who attended.”

The Twickenham Riverside project will create a vibrant destination that reconnects the town centre with the River Thames through new public spaces, improved riverside access, commercial space and 45 new homes, including affordable housing.

The project will also deliver a wider, pedestrian-friendly Water Lane, landscaped public spaces, children’s play facilities, terraced lawns, seating, pétanque pitches and a new riverside events space.

Richmond Council and Kier Construction will continue to hold regular engagement opportunities and provide updates to nearby residents and businesses as construction progresses.
