Subject: Dangerous Wild Animals

Reference: LBR-FOI-00342

I am writing from international animal welfare and conservation organisation Born Free. We are currently in the process of contacting all relevant Local Authorities in the UK, requesting details of all animals requiring licensing under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976 in their jurisdiction.

Under the Freedom of Information Act, please provide the following:

1. The current number of DWA licences within your jurisdiction.

2. For each DWA licence, list all the species and the number of individuals covered.

(In each case, please provide the taxonomic and common name, if possible, to enable the species to be identified.)

3. The number of DWA applications which were made and subsequently refused, and the reasons for refusal, if possible.

Response

Part Disclosed - 12 January 2023

1. The current number of DWA licences issued is ONE.

2. The species covered under this licence are 2 Savannah Cats and the licence covers one individual.

3. No DWA applications have been refused by the Authority.

Please note that our responses were accurate to the best of our knowledge at the time of release, and have not subsequently been updated. This information should be considered an historical record only.
