2023.10.26 Safety Report: Baby Lovely Doll

The following notice has been issued by the Office for Product Safety and Standards.

Product
Baby Lovely Doll

Type
Toys - Baby doll

Country of origin
China

Product description
A soft-bodied, clothed doll with a plastic head and limbs. The clothes were elasticated and had Velcro 'closures'. Hats, a bib, a padded fabric bag, a plastic dummy, a plastic drink bottle and a cardboard box containing tissues were also supplied.

Model
TD1601D

Hazard
The product presents a high risk of choking as when tested in accordance with tension test, the dummy broke apart into three components ('teat', ring and 'ring cap') at a force of <5 Newtons, which is less than the specified minimum of 90 N. The detached 'ring cap' fitted wholly inside the small parts cylinder and therefore poses a potential choking hazard to a child under 36 months.

As received, there were several small plastic tags holding the spare clothes together, keeping the bag closed and keeping the hat attached to the head. A screening test using a 70 N load was carried out on the tag holding the bag handles together. The tag detached under the applied force less than or equal to 70 N, i.e., less than the specified minimum of 90 N. The detached tag components could pose a potential choking hazard. Additionally, the top of the padded bag was held together with a single plastic tag such that the fibrous padding material inside of the bag was readily accessible, further presenting a choking risk to young children.

The product does not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.

Corrective action
The import has been rejected and destroyed at the border.
