Pools on the Park improvement works

Works are progressing on a range of improvements at Pools on the Park, including refurbishing the existing changing facilities and toilets, creating a new activity studio, and a range of works to make the centre more energy efficient through upgraded lighting and pool covers. 

Detail of works

Approximately £1.8m of capital investment has been secured for these works. 

In addition, there are reactive works scheduled to repair the flooring on the external balcony, to enhance the CCTV coverage across the site and to replace the pool covers. 

• New Activity Studio - A new facility for the centre, designed to offer a mix of group exercise or wellbeing classes to existing users and new users of the centre
• Refurbishment of fitness changing and toilets - Modernisation of the area and to ensure that we meet the Sport England Accessible facilities guidelines
• Refurbishment of Changing Village and toilets - Improvement of the flow through the area and modernise the changing spaces to ensure that they meet the Sport England Accessible Facilities guidelines
• Refurbishment of café toilets - Modernise the toilet area
• Replacement of pool hall ceiling, air handling and lighting - Improvements to existing infrastructure, lighting and air flow including improvement to access to allow maintenance to take place without closures to the pool in the future
• Floodlight replacement - Installation of new LED lighting replacing outdoor pool high level floodlights to reduce utility consumption
• Improvements to the boundary wall and fencing - Replacement of end of life fencing to improve security
• Programme of works to improve sustainability - Improvement to the building operating systems including the installation of LED lighting, upgrades to the pool covers and review of the air handling systems

Changing areas

We will not remove any changing areas.

The works will be designed to improve the existing facilities and provide clearer separation between users for different activities for example school groups, wet/dry changing and group exercise activities.

Timescales

We are currently in the planning phase of works. Further details will be provided as the project develops. 

Next steps

The boundary wall works and the replacement of the outdoor lights have now been completed.

Officers are working with the Crown Estate and Planning to seek advice on permissions that may be required in advance of the wider scheme of works and the planning process required for them.

Updates will be provided via our website, Sports App and onsite on the noticeboards with opportunities for further engagement as the projects progress.
