In June 2023, we consulted residents in Popes Grove (between Popes Avenue and the railway bridge) on the possibility of increasing the operational hours of the CPZ (Zone E) in this area.

This consultation followed the submission of a petition from residents of this section of Popes Grove.

Consultation results

The results of the consultation showed that 11 of the 30 properties consulted were in favour of increasing the operational hours, with the single most popular choice of hours being to 10am to 4.30pm.

Decision

Following the consultation, the change is now being progressed to implementation through the advertisement of traffic management orders.

Proposed changes

The current hours of operation and costs for the Zone E CPZ are listed below:

Current times and prices
Operational times Annual residents' permit Annual business permit Daily visitor permit
8.30 to 10.30am, Monday to Friday £58 £194 £1.50

If the changes are implemented as proposed, these details will change:

Proposed times and prices
Operational times Annual residents' permit Annual business permit Daily visitor permit
10am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday £98.60 £327.90 £3

Permit prices are reviewed annually.

The resident and business permit prices shown are for the first permit issued per household/business, for one year. Subsequent permits purchased per year are approximately 50% more for the second permit and 50% more again for the third permit issued.

Resident visitor permits (scratch cards) are available at half the standard price to the over 60s. These permits must be validated for the relevant time period. Currently one permit correctly validated for the morning period allows parking all day in this part of Popes Grove. If the hours were increased to 10am to 4.30pm, two permits correctly validated for the morning and afternoon periods would be required to allow all day parking.
