Marimba is a local singer from South West London, and has been exposed to a variety of quality music from a young age, as her father’s pride and joy was his great record collection; always playing anything from classical to jazz: Stan Getz, Gilberto Gil, Earth Wind & Fire, Randy Crawford, Quincy Jones, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Motown, Soul, Funk, Jazz etc. Marimba was part of an 8 piece band for 2 years, one of 2 vocalists siinging Motown & Northern Soul covers eg. Harlem Shuffle, I Can’t Stand the Rain, It Takes Two etc, performing regularly at private functions and parties. She also sings jazz, mostly early jazz covers /standards with a bit of Joni Mitchell thrown in, singing with pianist, sax, double bass and bass guitar. Favourite jazz voice – Ella Fitzgerald. Also part of a disco band singing at private parties and weddings. You can expect to hear songs such as 'When Sunny Gets Blue', 'Manhattan', 'Cry me a River' and other well known standards by George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, Cole Porter, Antonio-Carlos Jobim etc.
