Housing options for retired and older people

There is a range of retirement housing options available that caters for different incomes, care needs (including extra care) and support needs.

Sheltered housing

Sheltered housing, also known as retirement housing, is ideal for people over 55 who want to live in comfort and security but keep a level of independence. So, you’ll still in charge of your own home, cooking, managing bills and looking after any medication. Properties are usually self-contained, purpose-built flats.

Extra care or nursing

Seaside and Country Homes

The Seaside and Country Homes Scheme offers the chance of moving to the countryside or coastal regions of southern England. You can apply online.

Buying a retirement home
