Clean Air Villages Project - Phase 3 (CAV3)

Richmond was one of 12 London boroughs together with four Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) that won a bid to participate in Clear Air Villages 3 (CAV3) - a project led by the Cross River Partnership which was funded by a DEFRA air quality grant. In our borough, the project focused on Richmond town centre, working in partnership with Richmond BID. It provided free eCargo bike deliveries for around 10 to 12 interested businesses.

The project aimed to help businesses recover from the COVID-19 lockdown with clean, free deliveries, which would have financial and environmental benefits. Richmond town centre was selected because it is an Air Quality Focus Area (AQFA) where population density and levels of air pollution are both high. The project was adjusted in line with COVID-19 guidelines so that it is largely delivered online. The one year project engaged people and businesses via workshops (held as webinars during social distancing) with a focus on reducing costs and emissions.

The Clean Air Villages website provides further information and examples of existing initiatives, including ways in which you can contribute to improved air quality and reduce your exposure to harmful pollutants.
