Year 12 students and teacher from Orleans Parks School
At Orleans Park School, sustainability is an important focus, and their year 12 students embraced this by organising a Love Not Landfill clothing swap. By giving hundreds of items of clothing a new life, the project inspired valuable lessons, shared here through reflections from students and teachers.
When asked about their favourite moments of the project and why, students shared:
"Setting up the event gave me a real sense of whole-school community, which I really enjoyed."
"Working in the marketing team involved lots of team building. I was able to develop my communication and leadership skills."
"Creating core memories with friends."
Reflections on learning beyond the classroom
The Love Not Landfill clothing swap project gave them valuable experience in marketing, logistics, communication and planning.
Love Not Landfill is a non-profit campaign run by ReLondon (formerly the London Waste & Recycling Board), which encourages fast fashion fans to buy second-hand, swap, recycle and donate to charity. Their mission is to ensure young Londoners never throw unwanted clothing in the bin.
At Orleans Park, this initiative has helped promote sustainability across the school and inspired students to think more deeply about environmental responsibility. Year 9 students have also been exploring the impacts of fast fashion and possible solutions in their Geography lessons.
We are very grateful for the generous donations from families that made the swap possible. The event was well attended, particularly by Key Stage 3 students, who eagerly exchanged their tokens for 'new' clothes.
