Richmond Voluntary Fund launches appeal to help young children thrive

The Richmond upon Thames Voluntary Fund has launched its seventh annual appeal to support three local charities helping young children develop confidence, communication skills and wellbeing.

High-quality early education, especially for disadvantaged children, helps build strong foundations for learning, social development and future success. By supporting play, language development, inclusion and family engagement, the appeal aims to give every child the best possible start in life.

This year’s appeal will go towards much needed support for pre-school children and families across Richmond, helping children facing developmental, social or physical challenges get the right help when it can make the greatest difference.

The Fund’s trustees have selected three charities for this year’s appeal: 

• Brighter Together – connecting nursery children with older adults to build confidence and communication. 
• Home-Start Richmond, Kingston & Hounslow – providing one-to-one support for vulnerable families with young children. 
• The Otakar Kraus Music Trust – delivering music therapy for children with disabilities and communication needs.

Councillor Gareth Roberts, Leader of the Council and Trustee of the Richmond Voluntary Fund, said: “Children facing developmental, social or physical challenges need the right support to reach their full potential. By funding programmes, therapies and essential additional family services, we can help them build confidence, resilience and the foundations for fulfilling lives.”

Gillian Norton OBE DL, Chair of the Richmond Voluntary Fund, added: “The generosity of Richmond residents is inspiring. Last year, we raised more than £58,000 to support six incredible charities and this year, we are expanding our impact. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps transform the lives of children and families across our borough.  Over the lifetime of the Fund, donations have enabled more than 26,000 children to benefit from local support.
