Richmond vicar attempts 12-hour preaching marathon

Community news on behalf of Richmond Preachathon | 10 September 2026

A remarkable event is taking place at St Mary Magdalene parish church in Richmond when the vicar will be preaching from dawn to dusk on 22 September. The Rev Robert Stanier has taken on the challenge to help raise money for new bells for the church and the Richmond Soup Kitchen.

Everyone is invited to drop in during the day to support Robert who will be joined in conversation by local personalities including Sophie Raworth, the Rev Dr Giles Fraser, Greg Dyke, Anne Sebba, the Mayor Nancy Baldwin and the Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler.

Robert's preaching will explain and comment on stories from Adam and Eve to Jesus and his miracles. 'There is plenty of fascinating content and I want to show how it is relevant in the modern day" says the vicar.
