Help shape Richmond’s Suicide and Self-harm Prevention Strategy

8 September 2026

Richmond Council is inviting residents, local organisations, professionals and people with lived experience to share their views on the borough’s draft Suicide and Self-harm Prevention Strategy for 2026 to 2029.

Suicide and self-harm can affect anyone, and their impact is often felt across families, friendships, workplaces and communities. The draft strategy sets out how the Council and its partners will work together to help prevent suicide and self-harm, improve access to support, reduce stigma, and help create a borough where people feel connected, valued and supported.

The strategy has been developed with input from local partners, including health services, voluntary organisations, people with lived experience, and members of the Richmond and Wandsworth Suicide and Self-harm Prevention Partnership. Feedback from this consultation will help make sure the final strategy reflects local needs and strengthens support across the borough.

Please read the draft strategy and complete the consultation survey by 15 October.

World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide Prevention Day takes place on 10 September. It is a time to raise awareness, encourage open conversations and remind people that support is available.

Residents can also support the #ZeroSuicideLDN campaign by taking free online training. The training only takes 30 minutes and helps people know what to do if a loved one, colleague or stranger is feeling suicidal.

Local mental health support

If this topic feels difficult or you need support, contact NHS 111 and select the mental health option, call Samaritans on 116 123, or call 999 if someone is at immediate risk.

Local support in Richmond is available for whatever you’re going through. Reach out to one of the local organisations or access urgent mental health support if you need help immediately.
