Free lifesaving training and AEDs in Richmond
24 September 2026
On Sunday 4 October, join us for free Basic Life Support training sessions.
Last spring the Council announced a community-funded initiative to install new life-saving defibrillators across Richmond’s parks, in partnership with The Richmond Heavies Foundation (TRHF), the charitable arm of Richmond Rugby Club, and The Paul Alan Project.
As part of this initiative, on Sunday 4 October, The Paul Alan Project, Richmond Heavies Foundation and Richmond Rugby Club will be delivering free Basic Life Support training sessions, helping residents confidently recognise a cardiac arrest, perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
Free Basic Life Support (BLS) training sessions
These family-friendly sessions are designed for people who are new to learning BLS or who want to refresh their skills. All abilities and ages are welcome. You will learn baby, child and adult CPR and how to retrieve an accessible defibrillator in an emergency.
- Date: Sunday 4 October 2026
- Times: 12pm, 1.30pm, 3pm or 4.30pm
- Location: Richmond Athletic Ground, in partnership with Richmond Rugby
AEDs in the borough
In addition to the free training sessions, we have continued our partnership with The Paul Alan Project and The Richmond Heavies Foundation to install three additional defibrillators, bringing the total number of new AEDs across Richmond’s parks to eight. Of these, six have been funded by the Richmond Heavies Foundation, with the new AEDs located at the following sites:
- The King’s Field - will be installed this autumn
- Broom Road Recreation Ground
- Hatherop Park
Over 4,200 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in London each year, and effective use of an AED can significantly improve someone’s chances of survival. Find out more about AEDs in the borough.
