Richmond Council scores with a new multi-use games area for Ham community

26 September 2025

Residents in Ham now have even more ways to get active with the opening of a brand-new multi-use games area at St Richard's CE Primary School.

The new facility will provide students and the wider community with a modern, safe, and inclusive space to enjoy a variety of sports and activities all year round.

Councillor Alan Juriansz, Vice-Chair, Environment, Sustainability, Culture and Sports Committee and Lead Member for Sport, said: "Investing in spaces like this multi-use games area is about more than just sport – it's about helping people to be active, healthy, and confident.

"We're proud to work with St Richard’s CE Primary School to give students and residents a place they can enjoy for many years to come."

The new multi-use games area is part of the wider regeneration of Ham Close – led by Richmond Housing Partnership and Hill – creating a welcoming and supportive space that benefits the community.

"Our goal is to support Richmond residents to move more, in their own way, every day," added Councillor Juriansz.

"That is why we're providing accessible and inclusive facilities, such as the multi-use games area, where people can come together."

Head Teacher at St Richard’s CE Primary School, Sian Murphy, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the new games area. This will be a fantastic addition to the school and the community, providing our students the chance to try new sports, build on their teamwork skills, and stay active in a new environment."

The multi-use games area is an affordable facility available outside of school hours for local community and sports organisations to hire and use.

St Richard's CE Primary School will manage bookings and ongoing maintenance for the facility.

The multi-use games area aligns with the Council's wider ambitions through its Leisure Strategy, Richmond Moves for a Healthier Borough (2024–29).
