Team MND Over Matter supports local charity with 50km challenge

Community news on behalf of Integrated Neurological Services | 18 September 2025

On Saturday 11 October, a team of around 16 intrepid walkers will be taking on the Kent Downs 50km Ultra Challenge, with the aim of raising £10,000 for local neuro support charity INS (Integrated Neurological Services).

The team are all friends of David Young, who is an INS service user. Since David’s diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease, he and his friends have dedicated themselves to taking on fundraising challenges in support of organisations helping people affected by the condition.

This year David and the team, alongside INS Exercise Lead, Paul, were inspired to raise funds for INS to help the charity continue to enable people in Hounslow and Richmond who are affected by life with a neuro condition to access long-term, specialist support and therapies in the community, together with their carers - work that INS has been doing for over 30 years.

David said: “Since being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2022, I have gradually lost the ability to walk unaided, and my speech is now slowing down too. There is nothing anyone can do to stop this and after diagnosis, NHS care and rehab is sadly limited. You just need to get on with life as best you can.

“I look forward to connecting with the team at INS at my weekly visits and being able to, for example, access gym classes which otherwise would be beyond me. The team are hugely supportive and the community spirit they engender amongst all the service users amazes me every visit.”

Please help cheer the team on and support them to reach their goal by donating today!
