Help keep hearts beating this World Heart Day

29 September 2025

Find out about defibrillators and healthy heart lifestyle support as we mark World Heart Day on 29 September.

According to the UK Resuscitation Council and British Heart Foundation, around 80% of cardiac arrests happen in the patient’s usual place of residence. Every second is vital, and quick cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation can be the difference between life and death.

In Richmond upon Thames, many venues have defibrillators, including places like railway stations, schools, places of worship, and some community centres and shops. Find your nearest defibrillator.

Anyone can use a defibrillator

Defibrillators come with clear step-by-step voice instructions, and many also have images showing how to use them. Find out how to use a defibrillator

Local support for you to stay well and healthy

Up to 80% of heart disease and stroke cases are preventable.

If you’re aged 40 or over, take control of your heart health by booking a free, 20-minute NHS Health Check with a local GP or pharmacist. This can help to detect early signs of common heart-related problems before they become a bigger issue.

Full of Life, our flagship event for celebrating older residents and carers, is back on Friday 24 October at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham! Join us there for a basic health check, which includes blood pressure checks and advice, BMI checks, hydration advice and musculoskeletal health advice. This free all-day fair brings together more than 70 local organisations, services and community groups to help residents live longer, healthier and happier lives.

Find out more and register for Full of Life.
