Learn how to heat your home safely
27 October 2026
Did you know that stopping unnecessary wood burning could save 1,500 lives a year in the UK? Breathing in air pollution from wood burning increases your risk of heart and lung disease, asthma, diabetes and dementia.
Wood burning is the most polluting way to heat your home. Even homes with newer 'Ecodesign' wood burners are three times more polluted than those without.
Burning wood doesn’t just pollute your home; it also pollutes your local community and harms your neighbours’ health. 92% of people who burn wood in the UK already have another way to heat their home. Unfortunately, many are unaware of the facts about wood burning and are inadvertently putting their family’s health and that of their local community at risk.
