Residents invited to National Hate Crime Awareness Week event

12 October 2023

To mark National Hate Crime Awareness Week, Richmond Council, the Metropolitan Police and Multicultural Richmond are encouraging residents to learn more about hate crime.

As the safest borough in London, in recent years there has been a decline in overall reports of hate crime. Whilst a promising trend, marginalised groups still find themselves targeted with harassment and assault simply because of who they are.

Our top priority is creating an inclusive environment that ensures every resident feels welcome and secure, so this National Hate Crime Awareness Week (14 to 21 October 2023) we are remaining uncompromising in our commitment to tackle prejudice.

The ‘Recognise It, Report It’ event invites locals to join the organisations involved in countering hate crime and working with victims of hate crime to find out about:

  • The impact of hate crime on communities
  • How to report hate crimes
  • How to identify various types of hate crimes
  • The support available for victims of hate crime
  • Best practice for dealing with hate crime

Event details:

Date: Monday 23 October 2023
Time: 11am to 2pm
Location: Whitton Social Centre, 111A Kneller Road, Whitton, Twickenham TW2 7DT

This event is an example of how we are working with our partners to deliver improvements to people's safety.
