Council boosts winter support with £270,000 to help households stay warm

1 December 2025

Richmond Council is making more than a quarter of a million pounds available this winter to help residents stay warm and well during the colder months.

This year’s £270,000 support package – matching the investment made in 2024 – will provide targeted grants to ease the pressure of rising energy costs and protect households at greatest risk of fuel poverty.

Councillor Gareth Roberts, Leader of Richmond Council, said: “No one in our borough should have to struggle to heat their home during the winter. This funding is a practical, targeted measure that will help families manage rising energy costs and keep their homes warm. I encourage anyone who may be eligible to apply – even if they already receive other support.”

With energy bills continuing to rise across the country and many families feeling the strain, this support ensures vulnerable residents can heat their homes without having to choose between warmth and other essentials. The grants offer practical help quickly, at a time when winter costs are hitting households hardest. Last year, almost 1,600 households across Richmond upon Thames benefited from the scheme.

Grants of up to £170 are now available for residents on low incomes or receiving benefits – including those already receiving other forms of support. Full details on eligibility and how to apply are available through the Fuel Grant Scheme.

Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis, and residents will be informed once their application has been processed.
