Final phase of EV charging point transfer to begin this month
25 November 2025
char.gy Ltd has been appointed as the new operator of many lamp post charging points in Richmond. It takes over from ubitricity through a phased rollout which started in July 2024.
We have more than 1,150 electric vehicle charging points across the borough, including 337 lamp post charging points which have been operated by ubitricity under contract with Siemens. The technology of these charge points is open access and designed to be transferable between operators.
Phases one and two involved transferring 248 chargepoints. The final transfer phase of 89 sites will commence from 26 November.
char.gy operatives will attend each of the chargers to replace the payment QR code and signage, and ensure all systems are operational. Works are programmed across two weeks, but some sites may take longer if issues arise on transfer. We will work with char.gy to resolve any issues as soon as possible.
The charge points themselves will not change, and there will be no changes to the charging process other than payments now being made to char.gy instead of ubitricity via the new QR code provided.

The pay-as-you-go price of electricity at each of the charge points will be at a night rate of 39p per kWh between midnight and 7am and a day rate of 59p per kWh between 7am and midnight. The previous contract pricing was set several years ago and was considerably lower than the average price for charging in London at the time, but it no longer reflects current energy costs.
All live sites can be found on ZapMap. These also include more than 650 chargepoints which will remain under direct contract with ubitricity, which are not included in the transfer arrangements.
