Richmond Furniture Scheme puts the freeze on sending appliances to landfill
Community news on behalf of Richmond Furniture Scheme | 16 November 2023
Richmond Furniture Scheme are now selling refurbished appliances, including fridges, washing machines and cookers.
They have partnered with Wandsworth refurbishment and reuse scheme, Rework, to provide a range of white goods which have all been deep cleaned, refurbished, and exhaustively tested to ensure they meet Environment Agency standards.
The new venture now means the store has a one-stop-shop for furniture and appliances at affordable prices for people who need them. They are also extending reuse remits by saving appliances from the scrap yard.
An estimated 50,000 households in the UK are living without a washing machine or fridge freezer.
Richmond Furniture Scheme’s Chief Executive, Simon Westgarth, has seen first hand how hard it can be. He said: “Appliances are essential for most households and have a huge impact on quality of life. I’ve seen families with young children who have a broken cooker and no washing machine. How they coped without these items is beyond me.
"It's been an ambition of mine to be able to provide affordable white goods for our local community and Rework has provided us with an opportunity to be able to do this in a cost effective, high quality way.”
Prices are kept low, include a 12 month warranty and start from as little as £106 for a standard condition tumble drier. You can buy online or come along to the Twickenham warehouse.
People can also apply for a grant to spend at Richmond Furniture Scheme. There is also a 25% discount to people on certain benefits, NHS workers, care leavers, carers, and students. For more information, please visit the scheme's website.
