Have your say on proposals to improve public courtyard space in East Sheen
27 November 2023
Richmond residents, businesses and visitors are invited to feedback by 5 December on the proposed improvements to public space near Sheen Lane.
We have identified a number of local centres across the borough for investment as part of our Public Realm Improvement Fund (PRIF) programme. This consultation forms part of the work being done to revitalise neglected spaces and transform them into vibrant, thriving public places that benefit the entire community.
Over the past year, East Sheen ward councillors have worked with council officers and specialist urban design consultants, WSP, to develop proposals that will renovate the courtyard space around the municipal buildings off Sheen Lane.
The proposals include:
- Improvements to the areas surrounding the existing trees and existing planting areas with a wider variety of planting used
- A central garden with sensory planting
- Integrated lighting features to create an attractive environment and improve the sense of safety in the space
- Playful elements integrated within the street furniture to create an engaging public space where outdoor activities can occur all year round
Residents, businesses and visitors are being asked for their views on key design principles for the proposals which seek to provide continuity across the public spaces, streets and greenspaces within the borough and local area. If the results of this consultation show majority support for the scheme, we will work to secure appropriate funds to implement it.
You can learn more about the proposals and take part in the consultation online. The consultation closes on Tuesday 5 December.
Alternatively, a hard copy of the consultation questionnaire can be requested by contacting the Customer Services line on 020 8891 1411.
