Celebrating the creativity and connection of our Winter Warmers programme
26 March 2026
This year, our Winter Warmers welcomed over 5000 residents into our libraries, where free, uplifting activities helped them stay connected, creative and supported throughout the colder season.
The Winter Warmers programme brought residents together for clothes swapping events, digital learning sessions and even a chance to meet owls at your local library. New this year, we introduced stitching sessions, as well as music and singing workshops to help residents stay active and connected.
This year’s Winter Warmers were funded by our cost of living programme.
Councillor Nancy Baldwin, Spokesperson for Communities, Equalities and the Voluntary Sector, said: “Looking back on this year’s Winter Warmers programme, I’m proud of the way it supported our residents. Our libraries created warm, welcoming environments where people could access trusted information, connect with others and enjoy a free hot drink during the winter months.”
Councillor John Coombs, Spokesperson for Arts, said: “This year’s Winter Warmers sessions have been a fantastic way to bring residents together, offering fun, free activities that showcase just how much our libraries have to offer. Every week there’s an exciting range of activities taking place across the borough, and I’d encourage everyone to take a look at what’s on.”
One of our participants reflected that they appreciated the opportunity to meet people from different cultures, and the chance to learn new skills. They said: “I feel much happier. Maintaining good mental health. Making new friends, encouraging others to share, socialise, while making lovely crafts or other activities.”
