Have your say on a brighter Tangier Green Play Area

17 June 2025

We're inviting local residents and community groups to share their views on a proposal to introduce automatic evening lighting at the Tangier Green Play Area – helping young children enjoy more time to play and stay active, even as the evenings get darker.

The proposed lighting would come on automatically at sunset, gently brightening the playground during the early evening. Lights would be fitted with sensors and timers to ensure they operate at appropriate times and support the space’s safe, family-friendly use.

This improvement could make a real difference in the autumn and winter months - offering more opportunities for active, outdoor play after school.

The consultation is open until 13 July 2025 - have your say now.

This proposal supports our Joint Local Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2024–2029, which highlights the need to expand opportunities for children to be active through play, sport and recreation.

It also forms part of our Richmond Moves campaign, which encourages everyone to make physical activity a natural and accessible part of daily life. Creating more chances for children to be active in safe, local spaces is a key part of that vision.

If you’d prefer a paper copy of the consultation or need it in another format, please contact us at consultation@richmond.gov.uk.
