Come along to Strawberry Hill Community Choir’s summer concert

Community news on behalf of Strawberry Hill Community Choir | 24 June 2025

On Tuesday 1 July, residents are invited to join Strawberry Hill Community Choir and their Musical Director James Speakman for a delightful evening.

The concert will begin with Mozart’s Missa Brevis in D major, the first of his works to appear in print. This short mass was first performed in Salzburg in the summer of 1772. It was one of the first works to combine traditional polyphonic techniques with a more modern musical language.

Fast forward 229 years to John Rutter’s Feel the Spirit from 2001, a series of well-loved African-American spirituals with American jazz-inspired styles and the polyphony of the New Orleans combo. It was first performed in New York’s Carnegie Hall in 2001.

The evening will also feature guest soprano Ruby Skilbeck, pianist David Terry, and a selection of other musical offerings for a treat-filled evening!
