Richmond celebrates cycling milestone as 100th bikehangar installed
22 January 2026
Richmond’s 100th bikehangar has been installed in Park Lane, Richmond, taking the number of secure bikehangar parking spots across the borough to 600.
Bikehangars can be found across the borough and provide cyclists – particularly those without extensive space at home to store a bike – with secure on-street cycle storage.
The hangars contribute to Richmond’s Active Travel Strategy which aims to make it easier for Richmond residents to travel by bike and on foot throughout the borough.
Councillor Alexander Ehmann, Chair of Richmond Council’s Transport and Air Quality Committee, said: "Reaching our 100th bikehangar is a significant milestone that shows just how strong the demand is for secure cycle storage across our borough. Every new hangar helps make active travel easier and more accessible for residents, and we’re committed to continuing this work so that choosing to travel by bike is as convenient as possible."
Each bikehangar stores up to six bikes and offers a convenient solution for residents that don’t have home storage space, with hangars being accessed using a member-only key. The locations of the bikehangars are selected based on residents’ requests which can be submitted on our website.
The borough’s first cargo bikehangar is due to be installed in Barnes this April, providing two secure parking spaces for cargo bikes. The new facility will be used by the Barnes Community Association and the Friends of Barnes Common, who rely on their cargo bikes for transporting equipment to events and supporting local community gardening projects.
The 100th bikehangar milestone follows the opening of the new state-of-the-art cycle hub at Richmond Station that opened in Autumn 2025, which provided 650 new spaces for cyclists.
Bikehangars across Richmond upon Thames are currently managed by CycleHoop. Spaces are available on a first come, first served basis. Spaces in new bikehangars are available to rent shortly after installation.
