Have your say on Milestone Green

15 February 2024

Residents, businesses and visitors are invited to feedback by 28 March on the proposed improvements to public space near Milestone Green.

We have identified a number of local centres across the borough for investment as part of our Public Realm Improvement Fund (PRIF) programme. This consultation forms part of the work being done to revitalise neglected spaces and transform them into vibrant, thriving public places that benefit the entire community.

We recognise the importance of ensuring that the high-quality environment of our towns and district centres is maintained to retain residents and attract visitors to these areas. As part of this work, we are considering how to improve the area around Milestone Green to improve the experience for businesses, residents, and visitors – making the heart of the high street more people-friendly.

We understand that many sites in our borough have unique characteristics, that's why we are working with local ward councillors and other representatives from the local community including the Mortlake with East Sheen Society and the East Sheen Retail Association to innovate and plan for the future without sacrificing our heritage. By collaborating, proposals have been developed to create a more welcoming and greener space that builds a stronger sense of community.

The proposals include:

  • A dedicated space for the Remembrance Day event by the War memorial to recognise its importance within the local community
  • A greener public space with planters at the edge of the footway
  • Generous forecourt space for use by cafes and shops
  • Inclusive seating areas
  • Natural stone paving with permeable joints to reduce any potential for flooding in periods of heavy rain (subject to ground investigations)
  • Integrated lighting features to improve safety in the space
  • An additional cycle stand
