Repair and donate unwanted toys for a sustainable Christmas
9 December 2025
Spread some holiday cheer by repairing and donating unwanted toys to help struggling families.
Every year, around 8.5 million toys are thrown away in the UK. Instead of letting good toys go to waste, why not give them a second life? If your children will be unwrapping new gifts this Christmas, take a moment to gather toys in good condition that are no longer played with.
By repairing and donating these toys ahead of the festive period, you’ll not only reduce waste but also help families access quality toys at little or no cost.
Repair before you donate:
- Visit local repair cafés such as Twickenham Repair Cafe or Kew the Transition repair and share events
- Prefer to do it yourself? Borrow tools like sewing machines from the Library of Things. Sign up for a 25% concessionary membership or use code TKLOT for 15% off your first borrow
Donate through local networks:
- Exchange unwanted items for free using Richmond Freegle
- Book a collection with TRAID for clothes, shoes, and electrical items (including toys)
- Find charity shops near you
Every toy donated is a step towards reducing waste and supporting families who need it most. Together, we can make Christmas special for every child in Richmond upon Thames.
